I wish the word MISLED to be expunged from the English language. It is totally misleading. It sanewashes a LIE to look like a simple faux pas; an oopsie, a boo-boo, and not the fully intended untelling of truth.
Hi Lois, I hear you, I promise. The linguistic challenge, for me, is that I believe "lie" suggests to readers that there was the intention to say something false. Or, at a minimum, such a blatant disregard for the truth or disinterest in the truth that it rises to the moral equivalent of a lie. In this case, without a full video of the event, I had to rely on partial transcripts and, in some cases, paraphrasings. Some could have been wrong. They all could have omitted qualifying statements she might have made. I work hard to ensure that I'm applying the same standards to all that I would want applied to me. In this case, I could very well have called her a liar and then had her office throw video at me proving me wrong. I don't go as far as what I believe is true, I go as far as what I can defend -- even in the face of evidence I might not have thought -- as true. Would it be nice if we had a word between "misled" and "lied," it would. And for what it's worth, if I had done this story over at TFN I could've gone with "bullshit," but part of the reason I have two substacks is so that ONE is sufficiently family friend for other outlets to quote, take seriously, and cross-publish. FWIW, I take "misled" much differently than "misspoke," which to my mind is closer to an oopsie. That said, I appreciate you sticking with me even though we might at times see things differently. Thank you!
OMG, I never meant to criticize you, I just really have come to hate that word for lots of really good reasons. I hear what you’re saying and I used some bad examples which I did realize and was too mentally lazy to rethink.
You are in a more restrained position than we commenters who get off pretty much scot free no matter what drivel we type onto the screen.
Misled means to me the untelling of truth (yes it’s a made up word) but I’m an old woman and nobody listens to a word I say anyway so I get away with stuff like that - mostly
As an upmaker of words, I applaud your work. Thank you. Please know that I encourage everyone to criticize me. I understand why folks hate "misled" and have screamed the same things they have screamed at corporate media who have used it. Your examples were fine. You didn't culpa at all, let alone maxima. Please keep criticizing. That's the system, regardless of anyone's age or gender. Thanks, Lois. Grateful to have you on board.
I’m no biblical scholar, but I’d say Gusenkamp Perez (what a worm) should take a peek at Proverbs 6:16-19:
"There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.”
"Use the whole bible"??? What the fuck does that even mean? Has she read the thing? It's riddled with contradictions and, like most works of literature, dependent on thoughtful reading. It's not a fucking instruction manual.
Gusenkamp Perez needs to find work elsewhere. Or stay home. whatever, just not in Congress. There's a reason the Founders intended to keep religion out of government.
Gluesy the Gliveter goes to reactionary white Republican men for knowledge on how to "raise good kids." Where do we dig up these monsters? That is a massive insult to actually good parents and kids, not to mention so stupid it's hilarious. It's also just pure bullshit. She does all this stuff to plant her sorry ass in that Congressional seat.
Thank you for the follow-up. I appreciate all the hard work. I will be sharing it with everyone in my area. We are already in the process of seeking out alternatives for the 2026 seat.
This is your calling! Give me your number and you’ll hear your phone ring or vibrate or whatever.
I love the term “Christian Republican”(CR). That’s like believing in Sasquatch.
Didn’t H. Nutlick state “The person who yells the loudest is usually guilty?”.
I have a real time response to that but I’ll keep it to myself. Back to CRs.
CRs, I’m speaking politically, not generally, as in Christians, like to do something I do all the time.
When I read a recipe and decide, off the cuff, to whip it up, without any preparation, what I do is open the fridge or pantry and decide what’s a good substitute and move forward. If there are guests involved, say 10, 9 won’t notice the substitution.
The Bible and its before creation interpretations are almost infinite.
So, CRs, like my recipe substitutions, pick what is convenient, no preparation, toss it out there and maybe one picks up on the nuance. Obviously, the larger the guest list, the higher the pick ups.
Drollinger apparently, from everything I’ve read, got stuck at Malachi 4:6 and shut everything down. Full stop at no sin goes unpunished. Wrathful, vengeful, punitive. Name your pain of choice.
If anyone needs more Jesus, politics today, probably would not be my first choice, of combined topics especially at the Capitol or any government building, office, function, etc., especially if I’m elected and took an Oath. That oath, as I’ve stated previously, is like preaching the vow of marriage, yet….
The entirety of Easter is lost unless the SCOTUS rules that it’s fine to go sit in a cramped pew and infect vulnerable people. Anyone can pray in a multitude of solitary spaces.
One can also move past Malachi 4:6 and stop the hypocrisy and impiety because now crime-ing is fairly common and open.
Don’t drag your religion into the fray. Just do it! Just don’t be one of many things Jesus teaches you to hate. Rolls eyes. God has given that chore to Jesus. Now we enter the true meaning of The Beatitudes.
Review Easter.
So go ahead and steal the pretty silver tray. You need not lie about it. Go ahead and say you have told ten stories to ten people, in an era with cameras and video capabilities, right on a cell phone.
The one who yells the loudest, and I add, and lies and improvises, is usually guilty, and it’s usually the one yelling an incoherent Bible verse as an excuse for their guilt.
Follow the recipe or never think of substituting when baking!! Just don’t bake!

Mea maxima culpa.

Mis-lied? 🤷♀️
Oooh - good one!
Wowee! Excellent reporting; thank you!

Thanks, Sarah!

Everyone cherry-picks the Bible, because who doesn't love cherries?
Jesus didn’t represent gun rights. He gave universal healthcare.

Glue-Perez is a snake. Excellent reporting, Jonathan!!!
Voters rejected Joe Kent for THIS?
She wasn't this bad the first 2 years, she has progressively gotten worse.
Any half-sane GOPer could well boot her out in 2026.
What's to study in the Bible anyway? Completely waste of time.
I should think we can expect some Dems to roll to Maga if they see $$ and rainbows for their futures.
