I remember when they added "under God" to the pledge of Allegence. Even though I was attending a Catholic school at the time, I didn't like it. It didn't set well with me and it seemed out of sync. Like they were trying to make something fit that really didn't. And even a would-be, brainwashed Catholic child, such as myself, recognized that there were people in the worl that didn't appreciate the State pushing their religious beliefs on them. I think we should go back to the original. There is no religious freedom unless we are free not to be religious. People who can't even recognize the humanity in people of other colors, should not be trying to preach to the masses. They just come off looking like false prophets at best, and evilmongers at worst.
We have come full circle again. I remember when Jim McDermott left out "under god" while he said the Pledge of Allegiance on the House floor and the news blasted him for several news cycles. He had learned it before it was changed in the 50s. His fellow Democrats were as upset with him as anyone else. You can never satisfy Christians. The proverbial snowflakes.
I am one of the "unaffiliated" who live in MD, in fact, I am atheist. I believe in no deity of any kind. I do, however, support the Constitution.
I challenge the Schumers of the world to explain how their god would approve of a group of white Europeans annihilation of a race of people who lived here before they came. If such a god existed, I would certainly call 'it' out and condemn 'it'.
Let's all follow the Constitution, and leave religion out of the political discourse. It is clear there are too many religious beliefs, most of them clash with one another to the point of killing, and it creates a new "liar" everyday.
Reading this brought back memories of my six terms in the Iowa Legislature. Every morning began with a prayer from the podium, usually offered by a guest of a legislator and not always Christian. I quietly stepped outside the chamber each time. It was my way of saying that official government prayers, however well-intentioned, have no place there. Even good friends didn't understand. Leaders would tell me, "Just pick a rabbi and we'll invite them." That missed the point. Last night on public radio I heard someone distinguish religiosity from faith. Public leaders can speak authentically about faith without reinforcing Christian nationalism or blurring the line between church and state.
Schumer wants to model the US on Israel' theocracy and justify mass murder by ISIS-Zionist-style pseudo-religious nationalism. It has nothing to do with faith and all to do with satanic lust for power and domination.
I always think of my dear cousin's remark : It's okay to insist on respect for other people's beliefs, but we non-believers also need respect for our lack of belief.
Ever since I learned that Schumer’s go to guy for what to think, what to do is his brother Robert, a long time partner of the first to bend the knee law firm Paul Weiss, I’ve been saying it’s time for him to be replaced. New York needs a new Senator. The Senate needs a new Democrat leader. His fervent letters and having to read his speeches from the Senate floor (where’s the heartfelt soulful passion?) are a pathetic waste.
Stop these God bothering fools. The majority of the founding fathers were Deists and had no formal religious affiliations of any kind. Stop trying to rewrite history assholes, too many of us know the truth to let you get away with it!

Right there with you! I didn't like it when I was forced to say it and I don't like it now.
And on the money, on the coins and paper bills. How long has that been the case? Longer than I have been alive, I think.

Wow. Good for you. Thank you, Ralph.
Shumer is well past his "sell-by date" and is precisely the wrong person to lead the Senate in the difficult time ahead.
Schumer must go! Mr Namby Pamby
It's time for Schumer to step aside.
..."how Schumer would ostensibly know about that today."
I mean....he is pretty old.

Too many gullible people still believe in magic. Logic works better.

Schumer continues to disappoint, and remains the lesser of two evils, which is why I voted for him the last four times.
Chris Rodda is a terrific source!
She is!
She's the one who kicked off my "education" in the Liars For Jesus, many, many, years ago, now.
