I basically want to second what you said, Marie, I caught part of the live stream & really think that works really well here. I came back for the rest in the replay & got even more!
Full support of push back in real time or otherwise. Personally, I think the sooner the better. Holding the architects of a particular situation responsible immediately, and pulling back the veil on their BS responses is so important, and has no relationship to being insensitive to human loss. If anything, it honors that loss and makes future losses less likely. Ffs, Mike Johnson is in DC saying there's nothing he/Congress can do, all resources have been sent, prayers, prayers, prayers. Complete bullshit and complete disrespect to the people caught up in this predictable weather event.
Cronkite feels impossibly quaint now. And that’s the way it is. But looking back on that time I can’t help but feel like our current media space is so much healthier in some ways. Not great for cohesive discourse but when I look back on Trujillo or Guatemala or Panama or Grenada and our violent misadventures. Would we maybe have seen more information in real time?
I loved that you called out the pilot who rescued hundreds of people thanks to his taxpayer funded training and equipment. I thought the pushback was excellent
The discussion on voting was helpful to me. Voter suppression is clearly being pushed & it's sure not hard for me to imagine troop deployment as intimidation or trying to cancel elections. I've felt in a corner on the subject of election integrity because I both believe there has been attempts to change results AND that there are good systems of human oversight in place to prevent that.
Jonathan saying something to the effect of discerning "actionable" items helped me with my perspective. Not only do I want to know, the best it can be determined, if something is true, but decide how much weight I will give to it. There is power in denial. I guess I can say that yes, some things may be true to whatever degree, but I insist they can not & will not work & I'm going to do anything I can to make sure of that. That's something I can control, what I believe & where I put my energy. Not denial of evidence, but still choosing what we believe. Free will.
I think Jonathan sets a good example, he doesn't say abolish the News, but models a better direction. Very cool, I personally get a lot out of it!
The minute I start hearing people talk about praying after something like this. I wanna vomit, but I wanna do it on them.
They’re saying that there’s a supreme being that cares about humans that apparently made the flash flood. But somebody’s got to beg them, and of course, with specifically the name of THEIR imaginary friend, to do something about the problem and the missing children.
I’m not sure what, since they’re either dead or missing.
And this is all thanks to a supreme being that cares about humans tormenting their believers.
Lol, right. The narrative they are playing out is a dysfunction S&M relationship with a higher power, appeasing a vengeful god for special status. It isn't that mysterious, maybe they were raised in abuse & really are confused about punishment being love, or they know it's not & are using it as cover to abuse. Either way, it's sick & WRONG. Nothing is gained with these deeply unhealthy games based on twisted superstition. There IS NO appeasing abusers & abuse of power has no place in a healthy, functioning society. Logic & stated intent do not hold in what they are doing. No one should "hold faith" in some people being made to suffer & others being given favor for enabling abuse. You are exactly right, too, when you are being honest, to take action in alignment with your words.
The simple answer is that women should STOP taking their husband's last name. THEY ARE NOT HIS PROPERTY! That will set the trad wife folks' hair on fire.
I feel terrible about this tragedy, but the blame lies 100% on the GOoP and must be called out. Thoughts and prayers are the ultimate expression of nothing.
I’m sorry, but don’t assume the affiliation of parents who have lost their children because of their response in their shock & grief now. If every child & camp staffer who perished were from a Trump family or care what their socioeconomic earning was - that is irrelevant, it makes this no less tragic…. Also many camps like this offer scholarships- so bring affluence if campers/ families into this tragedy is pointless & beyond unfortunate. This is about the lack of responsibility in making cuts & extreme weather that happened when campers & camp staff were sleeping. And are we all sick of “thoughts & prayers” - we need to respect those who find comfort in grieving via prayers. This is about an I competent Governor who knows the weather extremes better than the I competent Wanna Be King & his staff… but he let them strip all staff needed to alert people & hadn’t installed warning sirens in critical areas. And sometime Mother Nature makes all of that irrelevant. Only time will tell as they evaluate this.
I came back and learned a lot from this live chat. Thanks so much for being there for all of us.

All we heard beginning of the Musk rampage and the first Trump proclamations was that what they were doing was illegal.
So none of us are sure democracy processes are really protected

God bless TFN!
Oh yes the patriot act. God what a fucking shit show that has been. Especially the creation of DHS. Among a million other things.

I must agree with you completely.

It makes me crazy in everyday life when people say such things.
It’s very similar to a person who says, “I knew the Lord wouldn’t let them get away with murdering my baby”.
WTF!
So this “God is good” indicates that God does stick his fingers in human lives.
He just doesn’t do it in a way that’s actually helpful.
He allowed the murder.
But he’ll make sure that this individual will be punished.
And here I thought that the same book said God will punish them after their dead.
That sort of punishment was never good enough for me.
Sounds like some believers feel the same way.

money always talks louder & cleared while other voices are muted or aren't broadcast
I think I heard I heard that the budget for ICE will be larger than our own military
It may have been our own army or other pieces our military.
Larger than our FBI budget, is what I remember reading.
It’s larger than many, but not ours…. Yet

Agree with how sad it is to see the Titans cave. Former Time Warner employee here. I just expected more from the legends.
